I hope you were not offended at my comment about your knowledge of the Bible. It was late last night.

Hmmmm... Never really considered the island scenario. Definitely, the Bible would be tops. Make it a Hebrew and Greek Interlinear Bible. Then I could include a book on how to learn to read Hebrew. Do you read Hebrew? The third one would also be tough. Maybe a thick Clancy novel. There are a couple of books that I recommend very highly to my friends. They have been real eye openers to me. "Celebrations of a Nation" by Lucille Johnston of Huntsville (of Johnston Concrete and Sharon Johnston Park). Well documented, well written, and must reading for a true patriot. The second is "None Dare Call It Treason" by John A. Stormer (first published in 1964). The latter turns out to be prophetic as well as historic. From it, I learned a lot about what goes on behind the scenes. I don't classify myself as a "conspiracy theorist," but I don't reject outright what seems to be documentable from multiple sources. It is amazing how much insight it provides into the background of some of the bad things (my opinion) going on in our society today. In there I found the roots of "Outcomes Based Education" and may of the socialistic policies of our present government and occupants of the White House. All through the book, I kept exclaiming to myself, "I didn't know that!" or "So that is where that (concept) came from!" as I turned to the author's references. Have you read it?

You say, “Watch for the central message.” If you could distill it all to one theme, would it be "the golden rule"? It is a universal theme in all cultures through all religions. I know I try and observe it.

The central message of the Bible (OT thru NT) is the salvation of mankind. It first shows up in Genesis 3:15. Read Psalm 19 verse 1 (I think) which says, "The heavens declare the glory of God..." There is far more here than seeing God in nature or creation. If you are interested, I'll send you an audio tape that delves into the depths of that phrase. Being Jewish, you would especially appreciate it. It deals with the Jewish Matzaroth (sp?)

Nope, not offended. I took it in the spirit intended.

I can recognize it and follow along in temple (when I go), but that's about it.

The central message of the Bible (OT thru NT) is the salvation of mankind.

From what (or who) ? And how?
